This guide will help you upgrade from v3.41, v3.50, v3.51 and v3.55 ("old versions") to v3.60 ("new version") of "Chicken Invaders: Revenge of the Yolk". Upgrading is automatically performed when the new version is installed on top of an existing installation.
Upgrading will allow you to keep your existing profile data when installing a newer version of the game. Your profile consists of several different kinds of data, and not everything will be upgraded:
In order to determine whether your particular installation of the game can be successfully upgraded, go through the following checklist:
First of all, back up your existing profile data. Do not skip this step, it is essential. If something goes wrong, then at least you'll be able to revert to your old version. INTERACTION STUDIOS CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DATA LOSS DURING THE UPGRADE PROCESS.
v3.41 ONLY: To back up your data, you need to make a copy of the folder (directory) where the game is installed. By default, the game is installed in C:\Program Files\ChickenInvadersROTY (or C:\Program Files\ChickenInvadersROTYXmas for the Christmas edition). You can find out where the game is by right-clicking on the icon you use to launch the game, selecting "Properties", and then clicking on "Find Target...".
v3.50 or later: To back up your data, you need to make a copy of the folder "InterAction studios" which is located in the "common application data" folder. The exact location depends on your Windows version (and language). In Windows 95/98/Me, it's the same folder where you installed the game (refer to the v3.41 instructions above). In Windows 2000/XP, it's in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\InterAction studios". In Windows Vista, it's in "C:\ProgramData\InterAction studios". Note that some of these are system folders which might be hidden, so you'll need to set your Windows Explorer settings to display hidden files.
Once you find the correct folder, you need to copy all files found there to a separate location on your hard disk drive. Make sure you copy (Copy and Paste) and not move (Cut and Paste) them by mistake. If the upgrade process fails, you can revert to your old version by simply copying the backup files onto the original files (overwriting them). Again, make sure you copy (not move) them.
Now you can install the new version. Use your existing authorization code to download the installer file from your account. If you are upgrading from v3.41, make sure you install the new version in the same folder as your old version. That's all you need to do, just launch the new game and your data should be there.
